Found in all regions of the state, the grayling is equally at home in lakes, small streams and big rivers. The grayling is available from April to November, with the peak fishing period being June through August. The Kijik is the pinnacle of Alaska grayling fishing. Not only is the fishing great but the scenery is breathtaking. Sockeye salmon arrive in the Kijik starting the third week in July and the small stream turns silver then red with their changing bodies.

Fish and Game has historically stocked grayling from its William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery in Anchorage but eliminated the fish from its stocking program during the 2016 season. The only lakes with stocked grayling on the Kenai Peninsula are Scout, Arc and Tirmore lakes, according to the 2016 statewide stocking plan.
